Boudoir

This 'Ladies Room', overlooking the Park on the south side of the house, is in marked contrast to the dark wood panelled rooms on the ground floor. Originally this elegant room, overlooking the Front Meadow, interconnected with the Library to form a large 'withdrawing' room.  The two rooms were separated when the house was substantially altered in the late 19th century and, following the marriage of Major Powell-Cotton in 1905 the Boudoir was remodelled in a fashionable Georgian style.

The room is light and the furniture elegant and delicate, made of satinwood and rosewood. The short keyboard piano was made by Robert Stodart of London (inventor of the pianoforte) in 1802. Further family portraits and a collection of ornamental porcelain in a large satinwood cabinet add further interest to this remarkable room.
